BRISTOL, Tenn.: Back in Thunder Valley, Rette Jones Racing (RJR) and driver Spencer Davis invade Bristol (Tenn.) Motor Speedway for Thursday night’s Bush’s Beans 150 hoping to better their fifth-place finish from the spring and celebrate in Victory Lane in NASCAR K&N Pro Series East competition.
Davis and the No. 30 Rette Jones Racing team are eager to deliver at the “World’s Fastest-Half-Mile” on the heels of a solid top-10 finish at Watkins Glen (N.Y.) International on Aug. 2.
While the team has stacked up the top-10 finishes this season, as the K&N Pro Series East season begins to wind down, Davis and crew chief and co-owner Mark Rette are determined to save their best for last and throw down performances that will keep everyone talking.
“I’m looking forward to Bristol this week,” said Davis. “It’s one of my favorite places to race. Things happen in a hurry at Bristol, but it’s a race track that you have to embrace. We qualified sixth there in the spring and had top-five car.
“We left Bristol though in April with more to desire and I think we can go back there this week and be a little better and have a strong run on Thursday night.”
Davis is aiming for his fourth consecutive top-10 finish at the 0.533-mile concrete oval. Since 2017, the 20-year-old has delivered two top-five and a seventh-place outing. A 14th place finish in his track debut in 2016 is his worst outing at Bristol in his previous four starts.
“Bristol is a lot like all the short tracks, track position is crucial,” sounded Davis. “150 laps go by in a hurry at Bristol, so we need to make sure we’re taking advantage of the cautions and putting ourselves in the right position to strike. I really want to be carrying the momentum off the corners to attack on the straightaways.
“There always seems to be a lot more attention to the summer race at Bristol and I’m eager to deliver on that. Mark (Rette) is a big fan of Bristol, so as a team we’re going there with high expectations and anything less than a top-five finish would be disappointing.”
The Mooresville, N.C.-based team welcomes JRi Shocks back as the primary partner for the K&N East
race at Bristol for the ninth race of the season.
JRi Shocks recently acquired by NASCAR Hall of Famer Ray Evernham was founded in 2007 by some of the most legendary innovators in motorsports to produce the world’s most technologically advanced highest performance suspension systems.
Season-long partners ALLPRO Corporation and Tower Sealants will serve as major associate marketing partners for Thursday night’s anticipated thriller.
ALLPRO Corporation is a business-to-business purchasing cooperative comprised of a network of independently owned paint and decorating product retailers. They serve over 280 such member retailers who represent approximately 1,400 storefronts located throughout the United States, Canada, Mexico and parts of Europe.
Tower Sealants is a manufacturer of top-quality caulks and sealants. With the strong financial backing of M-D Building Products, Tower Sealants started construction of its state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in September of 2005 and opened for business March 1, 2006.
“We’re fired up to go to Bristol after the off-week,” added Rette. “We’ve had a pretty decent summer. More top-10s than top-fives but we have an opportunity to change the direction of that on Thursday night at Bristol.
“We were pretty good in April. We were competitive. One more adjustment and I think we could have been top-three. We’ll fight really hard to be as strong as we can during practice and qualifying and then focus on the race and see if we can’t finally put Rette Jones Racing in Victory Lane.”
Davis, the Dawsonville, Ga. native enters the ninth race of the season with three top-five and seven-10 finishes overall, including a season-high fourth place run at South Boston (Va.) Speedway in May.
With four races remaining, Davis is sixth in the championship standings, 43 markers in the arrears to championship leader Derek Kraus. Just 13 points separate Davis from the top-five in the championship standings.
In 40 career NASCAR K&N Pro Series East starts, Davis has earned one victory (Dominion (Va.) Raceway 2016), two poles, achieved 17 top-five and 29 top-10 finishes. He has also 224 laps led in event competition.
Davis also has eight NASCAR Gander Outdoors Truck Series (NGOTS) starts to his credit – four in 2018 driving for Kyle Busch Motorsports (KBM), two in 2019 for Rette Jones Racing and one for Niece Motorsports. He earned three top-10 finishes including a career-best of seventh in his series’ debut at Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway.
The Bush’s Beans 150 (150 laps | 79.95 miles) is the ninth of 12 races on the 2019 NASCAR K&N Pro Series East schedule. Practice begins for the one-day show on Thurs, Aug. 15 from 12:00 p.m. – 1:25 p.m. Group qualifying is set for later in the day at 3:30 p.m. The race will take the green flag shortly after 6:15 p.m. The event will be televised live on FansChoice.TV, while on a tape-delayed basis on NBC Sports Network (NCBSN) on Wed., Aug. 21 at 6:00 p.m. (ET).
